Name is decided by parents or grandparent. Some people refer to a book that children’s name is on or fortune-telling to naming. Sometimes the social conditions of the times reflect to naming.

I went to Miyazaki in Japan for snow board club’s activity in summer vacation. We swam in the sea, we had a barbecue and fireworks and we enjoyed sightseeing. We went to prefectural government. It was crowded with tourists. Unfortunately, we couldn’t meet governor. This journey was great! I'll cherish all the good memories.

オーストラリア在住の日本人のブログで
英文と和文の両方で日記が書かれている。
大阪弁でおもしろおかしく書かれているから
読みやすいし英語を勉強するのにも役立ちそうだ。

この授業で、他者の価値観や、その背景にある文化について
英語を通して理解を深めることができた。授業で見た
映画についてはとても考えさせられるものがあった。
この授業で学んだことを今後
自分の人生において活かせたらいいなと思う。

★エコバッグの続き★
エコバッグは本来小売店で使用されるものだ。
前々回の記事にも書いたように、
最近ではエコバッグがブームとなっており、
洒落たものや、セレブ・富裕層の愛用するものなども
テレビなどで特集されたりしている。しかし
ブームに乗って頻繁に買い換えるのであればマイバッグ運動を
実践する意味はなくなる。
消費者は本当にエコに寄与する気があって
エコバッグを購入しているのだろうか？
おそらくファッション性のみを考えた購入が大半だろう。
これからエコバッグを購入する人には是非
このようなことを考えて購入してほしい。
ちなみにエコバッグとはこういったものだ

★Do you really need this “World News” class?
　　Is it really necessary for your future life?
　　Is it really useful for you?

必要だと思う。将来の生活に必要不可欠な授業かと言われれば
正直断言できないが他国の文化を知ることは
自国の文化を見直すいい機会にもなると思うし
自国で起こってる問題だけでなく他国で起こっている問題を
知ることは大切だと思う。世界には文化、人種、言語、性格の異なる
人間がたくさんいる。自分と違う人や国、文化などをこの授業で学び、
学んだことを今後自分の人生においてどう活かしていくのか
考える必要があると思う。

★Do you really need to read world news in English?
Surely you can find all the news you need in Japanese?

世界のニュースを英語で読む必要があるかどうか、ということだが
読む必要がある!といえば嘘になると思う。
英語が好きな人、今英語を真剣に勉強している人、これからも英語を学ぶ人は
長文読解力がつくからいいと思うし語彙力も高められるだろう。
しかしそれはニュースの内容を理解し、考えるのではなく、
英語の勉強上でのスキルアップにつながるだけになることもありうる。
国際化で英語が必要だと叫ばれているのはわかるけど
英語を第二公用語にするわけでもないし、
世界の大きなニュースならメディアでも取り上げられるから
英語がわからなくても日本の記事で内容を十分理解することができると思う。
しかし小さな問題までメディアは取り上げてくれないので
英字の記事を読めたらもっと世界の深いところまで知ることができる
といったメリットもある。

★What information and skills do you really need for your future life?
　　初めの問題提起に対して書いたように、他国と自国についての知識を
増やすことが大事だと思う。国際化が叫ばれているけど自国の文化も知らないで
他国を学ぼうとするのは間違っていると思う。
日本人として生まれたんだから日本の文化を知っておく必要はあるだろう。
そして世界で起こっている出来事にもっと着眼するべきだと思う。
